God doesn't love American's greater than people from other lands, but I think it safe to say that America holds a special place in God's heart. Where we have traveled and what we have overcome in these last 230 years is nothing short of remarkable. I believe we must acknowledge God's hand in our success as a nation.
Yet there are those who are doing all they can to remove God from not just the present discussion but also the pages of history. They want to talk about a county founded by deists and forget that a number of the signatories of the Declaration of Independence were men of the pulpit, perhaps the best know being the Rev. John Hancock.
Why I bring that up is because we can not divorce ourselves from our heritage as a client nation of the Lord, created to do His will. While I will readily acknowledge that not all will be Christian who govern, we should not diminish, condemn or push out those who are. We should not flee the influence of our Judeo Christian worldview. If we do so, we are in danger of judgement.
Maybe the better statement is this - since we are permitting these 'pushbacks' in our modern era, we are in danger of judgement.
Isaiah 1 lays out for us the judgement of another client nation of God - the Israelites. God did everything He could to remind them that their best place was walking in obedience to Him, but the Israelites would not listen. God went from gentle nudging, to redirection, to discipline. The discipline got so bad for Israel that it's almost as if God throws up his hands in complete frustration (1:5-6).
Here is what I believe frustrated God the most. In vs 11 - 15 God rebukes them for their observation of days, sacred moments and services. These people resorted to doing worship and ran from the thought of being worship. They did the acts, but there hearts were far from it. The condemnation of the Lord towards their behavior is severe "I will not listen (15)!"
God help us America's Christians that we flee the trap set by Satan to do the acts of religion yet to separate our hearts from them. May we instead be a people wholly submitted to God, not playing games with our faith as if somehow we earn what we are given. Remember we don't change for God, we change because of Him. May God have access to us and may we be emboldened to live our lives pursuing Him with reckless abandon.
